Objectives

On the occasion of the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the Gizonduz initiative, to publicise and reflect on the work carried out in the Basque Country in relation to public policies of equality aimed at men, to share experiences and good practices that allow us to face the new challenges that arise, both at a legislative and social level, to establish and strengthen cross-cutting alliances with different sectors, to make proposals for the future and to seek the individual and collective commitment of men, especially young men, for equality and for living free of male violence.

Specific Objectives

  • To tackle one of the most unique and pioneering lines of intervention in the field of public policies of equality, the generalisation of which is expected in the near future.
  • To make visible the benchmark role of the Basque Country in the development of these policies and to review the work undertaken, its progress, evolution and new lines of work, from a perspective of continuous improvement.
  • To learn about and share experiences and good practices that will enable us to tackle confidently the new challenges posed at a legal level, fundamentally, the reform of the Basque equality law, and at a social level, derived from the persistence of machismo and violence in the younger generations and the proliferation of neo-machismo movements opposed to feminism and policies of equality.
  • To increase awareness of the proposals for the future in relation to working with men in the framework of public policies for the equality of men and women and the country pact for equality and living free of violence against women.
  • To promote through public policies commitment, both collective and individual, of men, in particular of young men and in the framenwork of the Berdinaldia initiative of the Basque Government, so that increasingly more men act as active agents of change in favour of equality and do not tolerate any type of violence or sexist behaviour in their environment, contributing in this way to breaking the social and personal dynamics that sustain the so-called "rape culture".
